Behold the Estonian!
Estonian Fairy Tales invites viewers on a journey from the ice age to modern times, following the stories collected in Old Estonian Fairy Tales by Fr. R. Kreutzwald. These are stories that speak of Estonians in a colourful and humorous way, helping us to understand and decipher who we are and how we got here. What is it that all Estonians in the performance hall have in common?
The production is born through the interplay of actors, folk music and old farm objects. Rakes, cartwheels and other everyday items create a fairy tale world on the stage, bringing together old stories and modern people.
“A belief in miracles is planted in our hearts by nature, and therefore hearing such stories brings us joy, especially in childhood.” – Fr. R. Kreutzwald
Estonian Fairy Tales is a diploma production of the visual theatre master’s programme in the Drama School of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
