Magda

“Woman, why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?”

Once upon a time there lived a woman. Or perhaps she lives even now, somewhere among us. She is flesh and blood, a human being who loves and feels pain. But she is also a cultural construct: a figure whose story has been told even before she has a voice, someone whose role has already been determined and whose body has been moulded to perfection. If we try to look behind the veil of stories, will you reveal yourself to us, Magda?

The production explores the relationship between a woman, her body and the world around her through plaster, time and pain.

On a stage filled with plaster and physical exertion, we see a human being in all their fragility, resilience and beauty. Out of this encounter emerges a world of visual imagery where the body tells its own story.

Magda is a diploma production of the visual theatre master’s programme in the Drama School of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
