Guided tours

A guided tour in the Museum of Puppetry Arts is like an exciting labyrinth through the history of puppet theatre in Estonia – full of discoveries, surprises and stories that bring puppets and the world of theatre alive.

Each group can choose the focus they are most interested in: puppet types, theatre professions or history.

The tour of puppet types introduces different types of puppets and the art of animating them. Participants can try out how a puppet moves and comes to life; we will travel to the time machine and walk above the head of a 7-metre-tall puppet. It is a fun and immersive experience that tests creativity and teamwork.

The tour of theatre professions introduces various jobs in theatre, such as scenographer, stage manager, theatrical makeup artist, stage technician and actor. Participants have a chance to try out some of the professions themselves and see what working behind the scenes feels like.

The tour of theatre history takes visitors back to the year 1952, when the Estonian State Puppet Theatre (current Estonian Theatre for Young Audiences) was founded. We will learn about the artistic directors, head designers, productions as well as outstanding puppets. On a journey through the time machine, participants watch rare footage of the people and productions of the Puppet Theatre.
