On Sunday, 24 May, the Estonian Theatre for Young Audiences will premiere its new production Reckless<\/a><\/em> at the Small Hall of the Latvian Puppet Theatre in Riga. The performance will be presented as part of the Baltic Visual Theatre Showcase 2026<\/a> programme.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How is our perception of the world formed? Why does every person experience reality differently? Can our senses deceive us? Through play and visual storytelling, the puppet character at the centre of Reckless <\/em>explores these questions together with young audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Created for young children, the production grew out of a short piece developed by students of the Visual Theatre MA programme at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre<\/a>: Vootele Ruusmaa, Johanna Vaiksoo and Karl Sakrits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI realised that our senses work like translation mechanisms that help us understand the world,\u201d said composer and poet Vootele Ruusmaa. \u201cBut we also need to take care of our senses and know where the limits are, something the character in our story initially struggles with.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The production is created and directed by Vootele Ruusmaa, Karl Sakrits and Johanna Vaiksoo, with mentoring by Mirko Rajas, artistic consultation by Rosita Raud, and music by Vootele Ruusmaa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Performers: Johanna Vaiksoo (guest artist), Karl Sakrits, and Vootele Ruusmaa (guest artist) or Joosep Uus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Baltic Visual Theatre Showcase 2026 takes place in Riga from 22\u201324 May and brings together contemporary puppet and visual theatre from the Baltic states for international festival programmers and theatre professionals. The first Showcase was held in Tallinn in 2022, followed by Vilnius in 2024. The festival will return to Tallinn in 2028.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Estonian premiere of Reckless<\/em> will take place on 6 September at the Oval Hall of the Estonian Theatre for Young Audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n
