NUKU theatre and museum renewed complex opens it's doors on November 13, marking a start of a new era for the theatre house.

The new building on Nunne Street connects all three houses into one unit and adds around 1400 square metres of space to the 65-year old theatre. The main space of the new house is the Ferdinand Hall with 422 seats.

Construction for the new building started in October 2015. In addition to the Ferdinand Hall, it has plenty of work space for the technical crew and additional rooms for the puppetry museum. The museum re-opens it's exhibition, showcasing the creation story of a puppet theatre. The main entrance to the theatre and museum is now located on Nunne Street.

Theatre director Joonas Tartu says that the road to the new house has been long and bumpy but very interesting and educative. The total costs of the new building and partial renovation of the old theatre house on Lai Street are around 6 million Euros.

The architectural solution was made by Karisma Arhitektid - a team of Risto Parve, Diana Taalfeld, Kai Süda ja Kristo Kaskpeit. The interior design for the new building was created by Maile and Eliina Grünberg.  The author of the old theatre house renewed interior design is the head designer of NUKU, Britt Urbla Keller.

"This Sunday marks a new beginning for us," says the artistic director Taavi Tõnisson. "The celebration is dedicated to our house and to the people who have worked years for the new complex," Tõnisson says.

The first day of the new complex is on November 13, which starts with a ceremonial opening of the house. Excursions and theatre performances are carried out throughout the day as well as the possibility to visit the renewed museum. In the evening, an invite-only party is organized for over 500 guests.

The first premiere of Ferdinand Hall is on December 4, 2016, when director Sander Pukk's production of "The Magician's Elephant" opens.

Everyone is most welcomed in the new NUKU complex!
